The Bragadiru, Vârteju and Măgurele underpasses project is one of the largest road infrastructure works in the metropolitan area of the capital, being an integral part of the modernization of the Bucharest South Ring Road. The intervention involves the construction of intersections on several levels – underground, on the ground and above ground – to improve traffic flow in one of the busiest access areas to Bucharest. The works include the construction of underpasses at Bragadiru and Măgurele, a modern roundabout at Vârteju, widening the road to 4 lanes, as well as the construction of access ramps, cycle lanes and complete road infrastructure. The estimated completion time is around 2-3 years and the works are being carried out in complex logistical conditions, with active traffic maintained throughout the intervention and existing underground networks in need of protection and relocation
